Our Thanksgiving in Rocky Point, Mexico

For the last few years we have been going to Rocky Point for Thanksgiving. It is usually us, my family and a few friends. This year it was just us and my immediate family, so we had our big old fashioned family Thanksgiving on the beach. We bring our camper trailers and camp right on the sand next to the water. We try to arrange our trailers in a big U shape to block off our own section of the beach so that the kids can play right there in front of us without mixing in with other people. It feels a lot like our own private little beach. The kids love it and we can relax and enjoy the beach with a lot less work involved. No driving to the beach or hauling things down to the water. We just walk out of our trailers and there it is!
Our Thanksgiving Spread! We had Turkey, Ham, Potatoes, Salad, Stuffing, etc. And of course finished it off with Apple, Pumpkin, and Blueberry pies. My mom cooked the turkey in 2 crock pots that were plugged into an inverter running off of a huge car battery. It was very inventive and worked perfectly.
The girls get their hair braided every time we go to Mexico. We also use the same girl every time. Her name is Gabriella and she always recognizes us when she is walking down the beach. This trip she was walking by and saw my girls and gave them a hug. She is very excited when she sees us. We are a sure thing :-)
The finished product!!
While we were there we had Alaina's Birthday Party with the family. We didnt make a cake, but stuck some candles into some brownies that we had and she was just as excited. This is the second time that we have had a birthday party for her on the beach.
Aislyn recently cut all of the hair off of the Barbies that we have at home, so Alaina was excited to get a Barbie that doesnt look like Ellen DeGeneres.
The many happy faces from our trip!
Dawson loved pushing his dump truck up and down the beach.
Mommy and Aislyn chillin on the beach
Jason and Jaylee lookin sweet in their shades.
Aislyn and Emma playing in the sand.
My sister Bria looking thrilled to get her picture taken.
The girls trying to blend in with the locals. Siesta!!!!
Jen and Jaylee ready for the night time activities And so is this crazy group!
Oh, look who wanted to be in the picture. My dad (Pok) thought he was being pretty sneaky. Justin and Cuffy didnt even know he was behind them.
My mom (Mok) and Dawson
Aislyn with her big eyes
And Alaina with her big mouth!
Every night on the beach there are usually fireworks being set off from other people. We bought some for a couple of the nights. It's a lot of fun to sit back and enjoy a firework show every night. We sit in our chairs and drink hot chocolate until the show is over and then move to the campfire. The kids love doing the sparklers, but if you notice in all of the pictures Alaina is plugging her ears. She's not a very big fan of the loud fireworks. (Just like her mother)
So, I thought I would share some of the fun things to do in Rocky Point. This is for all of you that have never been. We were a little skeptical about going for a long time, but once we braved the trip and tried it we have been sold. It is $5 a night to camp on the beach and there are a ton of activities that you can do. Our critic Blake gives it 2 thumbs up!First off, there is low tide that goes out for several hundred yards. This is when we get the buckets and go hunting for critters. Brian is the leader and always the coolest person to hang around when looking for sea creatures. Bryce did help out this year with finding many things that Brian wanted. "Brian! You're Gonna Want This!" ;-) inside joke. We always find starfish, crabs, stingrays, and all sorts of other things. This year Brian was catching a bunch of Octopus.
Alaina found 2 big crabs
Aislyn showing off her fish bones.
There is the fun in the sand......
Getting buried....
Getting very buried!
Kayaking! This year we rented a kayak. Tiffany and I saw some dolphins out in the water not too far off so we went and rented a kayak to follow them. We rowed our little hearts out and eventually caught up to them. They were so close to us! They were swimming past us and coming out of the water right in front of us. It was one of the neatest experiences I have ever had. I havent even been that close to a dolphin at Sea World. Sorry, I didnt trust my kayaking skills enough to bring a camera along on that ride. This is my mom and I giving Alaina a quick ride on the kayak.
Bryce and Brian took it out to try some deep sea fishing. But only came back with a few clams and a small little fish.
Wow, what a catch! The fish of course :-)
My dad's birthday was November 19th, so all of the men pitched in and rented a fishing yacht for a 6 hour fishing expedition in the deep sea. They caught a lot of fish, saw big schools of dolphins, and Brian said he even saw a Sea Lion swimming along the boat. They had a lot of fun and came back with an ice chest full of fish fillets.
The Birthday Boy with one of his big catches.
See Jason admiring Dads backside, or maybe the fish. Not really sure. :-)
Brian's was not so big, but he assures me this was the smallest one he caught. They each caught around 7-8 fish big enough to keep.
Then there is always wrestling on the beach. Or just watching for your own entertainment. Blake loves to prove to all the brothers that hes still got it from his wrestling days in high school. Bryce is the one being reminded of this.Aaahh, and of course the concerts put on by the Mexican Mariachi band.
Alaina and Emma giving us a private concert. The songs included, All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, Jingle Bells, and Chicken Wing.
"Chicken Wing, Chicken Wing. Hot Dogs and Bologna. Chicken and Macaroni. Chillin with my Homies."
Justin was of course singing the same above song "Chicken Wing"
Playing baseball on the beach. Jason showin us how its done.
Beau often complains about how hard it is to be so "ridiculously good looking" even when playing baseball.
Bryce proving us wrong that only chicks pull off the white sunglass look.
Then the big boys moved over and let the little men play. Colton kept them busy in the outfield.
Jakey man showed them his stuff.
Another favorite activity of the kids is running down the sand dunes. They run or crawl all the way up the hill and then run as fast as they can down. Its all fun and games unless like Emma, you fall on your face and roll the rest of the way down eating tons of sand while doing it.
Colton is watching to the left there remembering when he just did that very same thing 5 minutes ago.
Jake and Josh helping Jaylee run down the hill.
Alaina showing off her running skills.
Now, if you ask the kids what their favorite part about the trip was, they will all tell you that its the rides in Uncle Justin's Rhino.
If you ever get bored at the beach there is always the trip into town. We go out to lunch and do some shopping. Here we are at the Harbor in town. Brian, Blake, Tiffany, Bria and I all ran into town to buy some shrimp.
Of course we stopped and posed for some pictures
Blake and TiffanyHaving lunch at Flavios
There was this cute little girl walking around the restaurant singing spanish songs and stopping at the tables to serenade them. Shortly after finishing a few songs we saw her and her "stage mom" walking around with some cds to purchase of her daughter and the little girl had an empty cowgirl hat for tips. It was really funny. But she was cute and had a good voice.
We have fun shopping in Mexico and seeing all of the stuff they have. Of course there is the haggling and feeling like you are really getting a good deal that makes a little more fun. Brian really has a special gift for finding the BEST t-shirts. If you cant see it very well it says, "SMILE if you wish you were gay"
There are Thrifty Ice Cream shops all over in Rocky Point. Beau and Bria are waiting in line to get theirs.
Just a look at the shops in town.
